A Software-as-a-Service application powering the vast majority of health universities in the USA.

After 20 years of success, the system had accumulated significant technical debt and complexity, making it very challenging for the existing team to maintain development velocity.

As a remedy, we stepped into the existing system to add new parts to it, based on a modern software architecture and tools, without having to rewrite everything around them.

Tech wrap-up

We led the modernization of a 20-year-old C# monolith to Node.js and React.

• Designed an incremental migration strategy using the strangler-fig pattern to minimize risk and cost.
• Built a new API gateway to route traffic between legacy and modern services.
• Implemented a modern CI/CD pipeline with automated testing and infrastructure as code.
• Recruited and led a team of 4 engineers, establishing coding standards and review processes.
• Coordinated parallel development tracks with the existing offshore team.
