FestBlast is an all-in-one platform that lets you easily find the best music fests, organize your trip and personalize your festival experience. This free web and mobile solution helps you stay connected with your friends and share your epic festival moments.
The whole web platform — back-end and front-end — was completely our work; only design and UI sketches were prepared beforehand by the FestBlast team. About four months of full-time work resulted in a responsive web app and native mobile apps for Android & iOS.
Tech wrap-up
Web application
- Ruby on Rails, serving three purposes at once: front-end web app, API for the mobile app, and an administration panel.
- Connects many APIs: imports friends (Facebook, Google+, Windows Live, Yahoo), favourite artists (Spotify, Grooveshark, Deezer, LastFM), and scrapes videos, photos and tweets (YouTube, Instagram, SoundCloud, Twitter).
- Advanced full-text search for artists & festivals with filters (date, price, size, location) and the ability to find the closest festivals by your location.
- Fully horizontally scalable (via Chef).
Mobile application
- Angular & Ionic Framework, deployable to Android 4.0+ and iOS 6.0+ via Apache Cordova.
- Push notifications and native Facebook login.
- Lineups and your own personal one, gig alerts, festival maps with friend-finding, plus weather, flashlight and a packing list.
Both apps are covered with unit tests; the mobile app also has integration tests (Protractor).
